This week was a very busy week, with so many sports teams out of the building! Congratulations to all participants in flag football, soccer and cross country!
In math this week, grade 5 students learned how to multiply multiples of 10, which is an important mental math skill. They also learned how to estimate quotients, by using friendly numbers. Grade 6's learned how to solve problems using the order of operations. They're using the mnemonic device, "BEDMAS" to help remember the order. There will be a quiz on number sense on Monday, then we'll move on to patterning.
In language students continued to work on their independent writing pieces. We also continued with our read aloud of the novel, Wonder. Next week we will take up the CASI test, so please ensure that it has been signed and returned.
In art students began to work on a multi-media still life of pumpkins. They're using glue lines to create texture and emphasis on line in their work. Next week students will use watercolour techniques to paint their pieces.
Homework:
1) Read daily for at least 20-30 minutes.
2) Practise the 2-5 times tables.
