Oct. 22-26



In math this week, students continued to focus on number sense. Students reviewed multiplication and practiced how to divide large numbers. They also worked on problem solving strategies. In addition, students worked on a University of Waterloo practice math contest. They will be writing the real on in the next couple of weeks. This contest will focus on problem solving related to computing. Lastly, we began a new unit on patterning and algebra.


This week in language students finished their personal narrative. Students also worked on a reading letter to me about a book that they are currently reading. Students also explored the Virtual Library's app called "Capstone." Students chose a book to read, then did a summary in Google Classroom. Please ask your child to show you our Google Classroom!



In social studies the grade 4's are learning about Canada's regions, and the grade 5's are learning about Canada's political system. The grade 5's worked on a mini project involving interviewing a voter. Grade 4's are working on a project about Canada's political regions.



Finally, in art we finished a mixed media still life project on pumpkins. Students used pencil, then glue and chalk pastel to create their art work. Jack also showed the class a drawing app on Google Classroom. Thanks, Jack!

Wed., Oct. 31: Halloween party
Friday, Nov. 2: homework due (note a day later, due to Halloween!)


Homework:
1) Read for 20-30 minutes daily.
2) Complete the homework folder work on reading and spelling.
3) Go on "Dancemat typing" and practise for 10 minutes a day.
