In math this week students solved problems involving fractions. There will be a quiz on fractions next week that will include converting mixed fractions to improper fractions, and vice versa. It will also include expanding and reducing fractions, and comparing and ordering fractions. After that we will move onto learning about decimal numbers, and how they relate to fractions.
In language students started to fil their imovie trailer. We also began to learn about and write persuasive essays. We began by annotating persuasive essays. Students then created their own outline, using a graphic organizer. We will continue to work on rough drafts and edting of those essays next week.
In science the grade fives continued a research/ design and make project on natural disasters and the structural features that are used to withstand them. The grade sixes are delving into a unit on space In phys. ed. we continued our new unit on gymnastics. Students are now in groups and are working on gymnastics routines, which they will present to music. In health we started to talk about human sexuality, focusing on puberty.
