In math this week, we continued our unit on patterning. Students learned how to identify and extend patterns, as well as how to write pattern rules. Students wrote a quiz on patterning on Friday, which will be returned next week. Students will study algebra next week.
In language we continued with our announcement writing task. Students will write an announcement about their findings from the Report Card on the Health of Canadian Children. Students worked on their rough drafts this week. Students learned how to write a good hook, and we reviewed the success criteria for the announcement. They also continued to work on the skill of summarizing, and wrote a quiz on summaraizing.

In social studies the grade 5's began a new project, researching a Canadian issue and writing a rant. The grade 6's learned about NGO's from Mr. Siefert.
Our student teacher, Ms. Brown, worked with the students in phys. ed., reading, drama and art. The students focused on overhead and forearm passing as well as spiking in volleyball. Ms.Brown worked with the students in understanding how to make healthy eating choices and the influences of media/advertising through small plays. The students have begun brainstorming to create their own advertisement for a healthy choice.
Finally, students continued to prepare for their student-led interviews. Students reflected on their strengths, areas for development and strategies for improvement.

Homework:
1) Read daily for at least 20-30 minutes.
2) Practise the 7 times tables.
3) Complete the homework folder work on spelling, cursive writing and reading. (due next Thursday)
