Dec. 18-22

In math this week, we continued to study data management. Students wrote a quiz on Wednesday, which will be returned after the break. We began a new unit on geometry by doing a tangram puzzle. Students persisted for up to an hour to complete the puzzle!

In social studies the grade 5's presented their their rant on a Canadian social or environmental issue, and we began a science unit on the human body. Students learned the names of bones in the human skeleton, as well as facts about the human body. The grade 6's watched a video on biodiversity with Mr. Siefert.

In language, students submitted and shared their second independent writing. Students also wrote a quiz on the correct use of pronouns, correcting run-on sentences, and the use of apostrophes. That quiz went home on Wednesday to be signed and returned.

We also watched a couple of great Ted Talks about success. Students discovered that two key factors in success are self-discipline, and "grit." Here are the links to those Ted Talks:

Finally, students practised and presented two plays this week. One was The Gift of the Magi. The other was A Christmas Carol. Students did a great job of collaborating and presenting their plays!
