March 19-23

In math this week, students continued to focus on number sense, with a focus on decimals. Students learned how to multiply and divide decimals by 10, 100 and 1000. Grade 6's learned how to multiply whole numbers by 0.1, 0.01, and 0.001.
 
In language, students learned how to write dialogue, including the rules for punctuating dialogue. Students wrote their own one-page dialogue, and went through the writing process, including editing and peer editing. Students also continued with literature circles.
 
In science the grade 5's continued to learn about forces and structures. Grade 6 students continued to learn about space.
 
In dance/drama/ health we continued to explore our inquiry on, "How should people treat each other?" We read the books, " The Story of Ruby Bridges" and "My Secret Bully." Students created a dance/tableaux piece to express the story of Ruby Bridges. Students also learned about "I Messages" and discussed how the characters in "My Secret Bully" could have used them to have better communication and relationships.
 
Finally, to celebrate Earth Hour, we turned off the lights and had a talk with Mr. Siefert's class about energy conservation. We then went outside and cleaned up the yard together.
 
Homework:
 
1) Read, "Action Earth" and answer the questions.  
2) Complete the math work on decimals.
3) Complete the practice work on punctuating dialogue.
4) Grade 6's only, complete the Number Sense and Numeration section of your EQAO practice book. (P. 4-8)
