May 1-5

In math this week we started a new unit on measurement. Students learned the mnemonic device, "King Henry Doesn't Usually Drink Chocolate Milk," to help them with metric conversions. Students solved problems involving linear measurement and mass. Next week we will learn about capacity and the relationship between capacity and volume. There will be a math quiz on metric conversions next Thursday.

In language students wrote a CASI reading quiz. Those tests will be returned and taken up on Monday. Please ask your child what mark he/she received on this test. I can't send the CASI home, as it's a standardized test.   Furthermore, students began to research for their social studies project, and learned how to write an effective topic sentence.

In science grade fives continued their project on energy. They are designing and building a toy, device or product that transforms energy. They will then create a TV commercial to sell it. Grade fives also had a Scientists in the School workshop on matter. Grade sixes are learning about electricity and are working on a similar project.

In health and phys. ed. students wrote a quiz on the puberty unit. We also continued to play pickleball in phys. ed. class.
