Jan. 30- Feb. 2

In math this week, students wrote a quiz on geometry. Those quizzes will be returned early next week, once all students have written the quiz. We began a new unit on number sense, focusing on fractions. We reviewed what a fraction is, and focused on basic fraction concepts.

In language, students continued to work on their independent writing. Most students are writing a narrative piece. Students also continued to present their book chat assignment. This can be written at home, as it will be an oral presentation mark. I'm hoping that students will get some good ideas for great books from each other, to help inspire their independent reading!


In science the grade 5's learned about the states of matter. They are now in groups, working on a Bill Nye inspired presentation on a topic related to matter. We discussed the learning goals and success criteria for this project, and students began to plan together. Grade 6 students gave presentations to the class about biodiversity.


Homework:

Read for at least 20- 30 minutes daily.
Work on/ complete the book chat assignment. The due dates for this vary, from Jan. 16- Feb. 2. 
( Most students have completed this. )
Complete the homework folder work on math and reading.

Tues, Feb. 6: Right to Play assembly (gr. 3-6) and workshop for student council members
Wed., Feb. 7: French music field trip for junior students
Thurs., Feb. 8: homework due
Monday Feb. 12: reports go home 
Thurs., Feb. 15 and Friday, Feb. 16: teacher-requested interviews
